Winter perfumes: warm, woody and gourmand

Winter perfumes: warm, woody and gourmand

During winter, our preference naturally shifts toward warmth and depth. Not only in fabrics and colour palettes, but also in fragrance. As temperatures drop, the way a perfume behaves on the skin changes. Cold air allows richer notes to unfold more slowly, bringing certain scents fully to life.

Where summer perfumes tend to have a light, transparent structure that feels effortless in the heat, winter calls for fuller, more layered compositions. Notes of spices, woods, amber, vanilla and musk perform better in cold air and remain present for longer. A good winter perfume feels soft and enveloping, offering depth without ever feeling too heavy.

Winter perfume is therefore more than just a fragrance. It becomes an extension of your winter wardrobe. In this journal post, we explore what defines a winter perfume and highlight three winter fragrances from our perfume collection.

WHAT MAKES A PERFUME SUITABLE FOR WINTER?

A perfume suited to winter typically features a richer composition. In colder air, fragrance develops more slowly and remains more stable on the skin. Winter perfumes are often defined by one or more of the following characteristics:

  • warm and spicy, with notes such as cardamom, cinnamon or pink pepper

  • woody and layered, built around cedarwood, sandalwood or agarwood, often softened with musk
  • spicy gourmand, with smooth notes like cacao, praline, vanilla or amber

These scent characteristics ensure that a perfume does not fade as soon as you step outside, but instead unfolds gradually throughout the day. Fragrances with a rounded structure and richer notes adapt better to lower temperatures. Woody, spicy and gourmand compositions maintain their signature and offer depth without becoming overpowering.

WHY PERFUME SMELLS DIFFERENT IN WINTER

Temperature plays an important role in how a fragrance is experienced. In colder weather, perfume evaporates more slowly, allowing the top notes to linger while the heart and base notes become more pronounced. As a result, winter fragrances tend to feel fuller and unfold at a more measured pace.

Fragrance also interacts differently with the skin during colder months. Dry skin retains scent less effectively, which causes lighter perfumes to fade more quickly. Notes such as musk, woods and amber bind more easily to the skin, creating a richer and more stable scent profile. This is why woody and spicy fragrances feel especially well suited to winter.

OUR WINTER PERFUMES

Within our perfume collection, you’ll currently find three winter fragrances, each defined by its own distinctive character.

Arctic Spice eau de parfum

Arctic Spice eau de parfum is a bold winter fragrance with a subtle gourmand undertone. The scent opens with cardamom and warming spices that instantly evoke a cosy atmosphere. Fresh and spicy, yet never sharp. Instead, it feels enveloping and familiar, as if the fragrance slowly settles around you.

In the base, musk, amber and vanilla create a smooth, comforting finish. This combination gives Arctic Spice its signature warmth and depth, while remaining refined rather than heavy. The fragrance unfolds gradually on the skin, becoming fuller as the day goes on.

A scent that captures the essence of winter. Warm, nostalgic and inviting, like a velvet-soft blanket on a cold winter evening.

Without Saying Much eau de parfum

Without Saying Much eau de parfum is our modern interpretation of oud. Woody, warm and refined, with a subtle smoky edge, yet light enough to wear every day. Luxurious without feeling heavy, designed to stay gently present on the skin.

The fragrance opens with subtle spice from pink pepper and fresh bergamot, complemented by a velvety hint of rose. At the heart, agarwood takes the lead, sensual and elegant, softened by iris and a delicate touch of incense. As it develops, ambroxan, musk and cedarwood leave a smooth trail with understated leathery nuances.

An elegant winter fragrance defined by contrast and depth. Refined, confident and effortlessly chic.

Kept for a While eau de parfum

Kept for a While eau de parfum is our newest addition to the collection, a winter perfume featuring a soft, gourmand character. Where many winter fragrances lean bold and intense, this scent centers on warmth, intimacy and nostalgia. It feels familiar, like a cherished memory you want to keep close.

The opening is warm and enveloping, with notes of cognac and cacao that immediately create a sense of comfort. In the heart, cinnamon and praline add a sensual gourmand layer, bringing richness without tipping into sweetness. This balance sets Kept for a While apart among our winter fragrances. A base of amber, musk and woody notes adds depth and a gentle glow that stays close to the skin. A fragrance that captures the feeling of coming home on a cold winter day.

Soft, elegant and refined, with a subtle luxurious undertone. A rich gourmand where softness and intensity exist in perfect balance.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT WINTER PERFUME?

Choosing a winter perfume is not only about personal scent preference, but also about how a fragrance unfolds in cold air. Rich, layered compositions develop more slowly and remain present for longer, making character and balance more important.

If you’re drawn to spicy, warm scents with a clear woody base, Arctic Spice eau de parfum is a natural fit. If you prefer a more understated woody fragrance with subtle smoky nuances, Without Saying Much eau de parfum offers a refined alternative. For a truly winter-inspired sense of comfort and intimacy, Kept for a While eau de parfum stands out as a nostalgic gourmand fragrance with notes of cacao and vanilla.
